I have mixed feelings about this place. Stayed here for 3 nights 15-18 Aug. They advertise it as a 5-star hotel, but it's really not. Here's what I thought: The Good: The location is amazing. That’s the best part about this hotel. Everything is a quick 10-minute walk away, and there's a handy little supermarket right around the corner. The view is great! The Bad (and the Weird): It's a huge stretch to call this a 5-star hotel. Three stars would be a generous rating. The hotel is located in an alley inside a building with other private homes. The tiny, vintage elevator you take up to the lobby is kind of a fun experience, to be honest! But getting into the hotel itself is a little strange. You have to use your phone to unlock the door, so make sure you have Wi-Fi. The door is also super loud and definitely needs to be fixed. The room was clean and was tidied up every day. It was spacious enough, but not enough to put two large suitcases. The bedding was just a sheet and a thin blanket, which was a bit disappointing. The air conditioning is terrible. It barely works even on the lowest setting. The remote has a sticker that says "do not change remote setting," which I found really weird. The shower has ridiculously low water pressure—it's more like a light rain than a proper shower. They also only provide a small packet of shampoo and one tiny bar of soap per day. The bathroom itself is modern and spacious, though. The included breakfast is very basic, but at least it arrives right on time every morning. Final Takeaway: Overall, it wasn't a terrible stay, and the location is fantastic. But as someone who has stayed in real 5-star hotels, I can say with confidence that this is not one of them. Cold Showers, Misleading Promises, and Noisy Nights: A Disastrous Stay Our stay at Pantheon Caesar Relais in Rome was deeply disappointing and far from what we expected, especially given the high price of €200 per night. Here are the main issues: 1. Misleading Parking Information: We booked through Hotels.com because the hotel claimed to have parking. In reality, there were no dedicated parking spaces—only street parking or nearby garages that cost €20-30 per day. Hotels.com should ensure that hotels can only claim parking availability if they provide actual spaces for guests, not just suggest costly alternatives. 2. Cold, Dysfunctional Showers: From the moment we arrived, the shower was a nightmare. Not only was the water ice-cold, but the digital control system for the shower was completely broken. The display didn’t work, and the four supposed “massage” options were unresponsive and mixed up, resulting in a chaotic mess of weak water streams. The water pressure was abysmally low, making it impossible to enjoy even a cold shower. When we complained, the hotel staff suggested letting the water run for 10-15 minutes to warm up—unacceptable and wasteful for a property in this price range. The second day was no better, with freezing water again. After escalating the issue, we were moved to another room, but the shower there was only slightly warmer and still far below acceptable standards. The staff admitted that our original room was far from the water pump, which meant they knew about the issue beforehand but still rented it out to us. 3. Poor Service and Cleanliness: The staff’s attitude left much to be desired, making us feel like we were at fault for expecting basic amenities like a working shower. The room itself was poorly maintained: the TV didn’t work, the safe was unreliable, and there was visible dirt under the bed. To top it off, the noise from other guests entering the hotel and walking around was constant and extremely disruptive. 4. Lack of Accountability: Despite our numerous complaints, the hotel declined any form of compensation or refund, even after we involved Hotels.com. The lack of accountability from both the hotel and the booking platform is unacceptable. The only positive was the central location, but this alone does not justify staying here. For €200 per night, guests deserve functioning amenities, hot water, cleanliness, and respectful service—all of which were missing here. Recommendation: Avoid Pantheon Caesar Relais at all costs. There are better hotels in Rome that provide the basics of hospitality. Hotels.com should also take stricter action against false advertising and ensure better accountability for customer complaints. Ps: The hotels horrific response to my review shows their true color, attityd, behaviour and respect for the guests. They take zero responsibility for their mistakes.
