Our experience on the Orchid Premium Cruise in Ha Long Bay was truly unforgettable. For three days, we had the unique opportunity to be among just a few guests on the vessel, which created an incredibly intimate atmosphere that allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of the bay. From the moment we boarded, we were captivated by the stunning scenery surrounding us—towering limestone karsts rising majestically from the emerald waters create a picture-perfect backdrop for relaxation and exploration. The tranquility of the bay, especially with so few people on board, made every moment feel special. While the food on the cruise was decent, earning a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars, it was the exceptional service that truly made our experience shine. Our host was incredible—so warm, engaging, and attentive. His enthusiasm and passion for sharing the culture and beauty of Ha Long Bay made all the difference, turning what could have been an average dining experience into a memorable one. We spent our days exploring hidden caves, kayaking in serene waters, and enjoying the stunning sunsets from the deck. Each moment felt like a private escape, and we cherished the opportunity to connect not only with the breathtaking surroundings but also with our wonderful host, who added a personal touch to our journey. 2 Night, 3 day Cruise. Orchid Classic 3 We were welcomed to the reception centre before the 45 minute trip out to the Boat. Our Cruise Manager Mr Trien was a lovely lovely man who made a huge effort with us all. Again, and again he asked if there was any problem – they clearly wanted to solve anything. Arrived to a waving crew and Orchid flowers with Vietnamese Hello and a welcome drink. The cabins are glorious. We were downstairs for’ard – close to the anchor chain so one knew when we weighed but it’s a boat and no issue. The cabin has a large double bed, chaise long (3rd bed if needed), desk, cupboard safe, shower, flushing western loo and a large roll top bath by picture windows. Also a balcony with two chairs. Delightfully clean with aircon blasting out. Bliss! Upstairs for a scrumptious lunch and blissful food and lovely service from our superb waiter, Win. We cruised a bit and then went on a hilarious Sampan ride thorugh a cave and back to the boat for jacuzzi, a leap into the sea and happy two hours with beer and cocktails. Such lovely servise and a delicious supper where we had a delicious pork dish and then, when we thought that was a main, a yummy Vietnamese catfish, dill, noodles which was a riff on the Vietnamese Grilled fish. All good. More cocktails. We were warned of an impending Tropical Storm called Prapiroon – 4th Typhoon of the seaons so our 3 day 2 night turned into little more than 24 hours. Not Orchid’s fault and Mr Tien weighed anchor early so that a viist to the fishing village was possible and then back in. As you can see I write loads of reviews and am not an infrequest poster so I hope that you can trust my view that Orchid Cruise with 14 or fewer cabins is the way to do it. Go small. Orchid Classic 3 with Mr Tien and Win and others was a delight. Lovely fellow guests. Be prepared for Rubbish. The bays are strewn with rubbish and polystyrene. Just keep looking up at the most beautiful sights that I have ever seen in the bays. It is not Orchid’s fault. Vietnam is a developing country and to be expected. It. Is. Busy. You want to be there because it is beautiful. So does everyone else. I counted 40 boats around us when we moored the first night. You can hear a bit of must etc from them and see them but still the view, the view is amazing. Be prepared for rubbis and it being busy but look through that to the most wonderful service, a great boat, smiley happy people who can’t do enough for you and the most beautiful place in the world.Cas Agnew
