Visited Ya Kun Kaya Toast at Raffles City Shopping Centre on 20 Dec morning. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. The outlet was dirty, with crumbs left on tables and stools, which was already off-putting. We ordered three sets of Set A and requested slightly more cooked eggs. For over a decade, we’ve been regular Ya Kun customers at many outlets, and it has always been standard practice to collect the eggs when we feel the doneness is right, which has never been an issue before. When we went to collect the eggs, the Chinese lady at the counter was extremely rude, shouted at us, and insisted we had to wait for everything to be served together. She told us we were not allowed to decide when to collect the eggs and ordered us to go back and wait for our number. In the end, the eggs were very runny, definitely not at the doneness we requested. Why is the Raffles City outlet treated differently from other Ya Kun outlets? Are customers no longer allowed to decide when to collect their eggs? The attitude was unacceptable, and customer service was non-existent. As a long-time Ya Kun customer of many years, this experience was shocking. Poor hygiene, poor attitude, and zero service recovery. This was my first time trying Kaya Toast and it was incredible! We got a set, with Kaya Toast, soft eggs and coffee and it was such a great deal. The coffee also was so delicious. We went to go back the next day but the line was so long - so make sure you get there early. But it’s so worth the wait!Sabrina Hards

I am a ya Kun regular but first time coming to this outlet. Really really terrible service, the staff were from China and didn’t understand when I asked for an extra plate, not only that they then just said no and ignored me, especially the lady who seemed to even be angry that I’m asking for an extra plate, I had to resort to asking another customer to help me translate. The surprising thing is this is in a touristy area in town, some really basic English should be required, or at least some basic manners. The only friendly staff was the aunty at the counter. Ya Kun Kaya Toast is a good spot for anyone longing a dose of nostalgia and simple soul food. This self-service café, given its bustling location in terms of easy accessibility and high foot traffic, is rarely uncrowded. Have patronized YKKT at its former premise multiple times but a first visit since it moved. The new store - situated directly opposite Tiong Bahru Bakery - is now bigger and brighter. Our order for afternoon bites is Value Set Meal Set C (Butter Sugar Toast) which we haven't had for a long time. Delightful to savour the thick slabs of cold butter and sugar tucked in between the warm, crisp toasts! This place is packed and bustling with tourists. Table, stools and circulation space is tight and therefore it’s not a place to slowly enjoy your kopi and toast. Perhaps due to the heavy traffic, the coffee was sappy and not smooth. The toast seems hastily slapped together as you can see in the photo. For a local breakfast, there are so many options and I wouldn’t recommend this place. The location is great only for tourists.L T
